Deal with the Primary Product Source
for true Wholesale Prices

Sure, we've all seen the hyped-up ads in the magazines: "Become an International Trader
Today", "Make Money With Our World of Products", "Average Joe in Indiana Made
Thousands In Just One Month!"

Turns out that most (if not all) of these advertisers are selling a "program" for hundreds of dollars, whereby they will sell you catalogs to distribute to help sell their products, which
they claim to make available to you at "wholesale" prices.

A
real wholesaler does not advertise to the general public, and does not charge
membership fees for the "privilege" of buying from them. So if you see an ad in a
magazine that you bought at your local newsstand or supermarket, chances are that
they are just a middleman distributor who is targeting opportunity seekers. Though they
may charge prices that are substantially lower than retail, they cannot offer true
wholesale prices because they are not the primary source (manufacturer or importer).

In order to get a
true wholesale price, you must deal directly with the product's
manufacturer, or one of their primary importers or distributors.

So how do I find a primary source for a product I want to sell?

As mentioned above, true wholesalers do not advertise to the general public.

They can be found in
TRADE PUBLICATIONS and DIRECTORIES which are
distributed to resellers (retail stores, local distributors, etc.)

TRADE PUBLICATIONS and DIRECTORIES

COVER Magazine, published by Sumner Communications, is one of the best sources
for wholesale products. It is issued monthly, with ads from hundreds of manufacturers
and major distributors of all types of products. Many offer monthly specials which change from issue to issue. Go to the WholesaleCentral link below for subscription information.

Sumner Communications also operates
WholesaleCentral, one of the most comprehensive
directories of wholesale product sources on the internet today. No matter what you want
to sell, you will find dozens or even hundreds of sources here for any particular product.

Sumner also publishes trade directories of foreign product sources, for those who would
like to import the products themselves.

You can also consult the
THOMAS REGISTER, which is a directory of every product
manufacturer in the U.S. This is available in every public library. Just look up the
manufacturers for the product you want and contact them for a catalog and price
information. Some manufacturers will not sell to you directly if you are not a big
player like Walmart or Target, but they WILL at least refer you to one of their
primary distributors.

Will a big distributor sell to me?
If I am not an established business, won't they turn me away?
How do I become a qualified buyer?

Most wholesalers will sell to anybody who will furnish a
valid sales tax certificate, and
meet a
minimum purchase requirement.

If you don't have a
sales tax certificate, contact the Department of Revenue for the
state that you live in. If you are doing business under your own name, you do not
need any type of business license to get this. Fees vary from state to state, but in
most places it will only cost you about $10 to $15 to register. In most states this is
a one-time fee, and the certificate does not expire unless you have a change of
address or change of company name or owner.

Minimum purchase requirements may vary greatly. A company selling cheap novelty
products may only require a minimum purchase of $25, while a distributor of fine
jewelry is certainly going to require a purchase of several thousand dollars.

For most general merchandise, however, a $100 minimum purchase is fairly typical.
